One
of the most popular of the tattoo designs that are being used today are
tattoo crosses. This is maybe because it is a powerful religious symbol
of one of major religions in the world. However, the use of a cross as a
symbol has been used long before Christianity even started. Like sun
tattoos, it has been observed in many ancient civilizations and has come
in many forms and variations.
The most famous of all tattoo cross designs is that of the Christian
cross which is said to be similar to the one which Jesus Christ was
crucified in. Some designs also include the figure of Christ either
dying in the cross or full of life and ready to save mankind; the sacred
heart and the crown of thorns.
Gothic crosses are similar to other crosses except that they convey
images that express dark and pessimistic thoughts. They usually have
sharp edges and often combined with skulls and bones, snakes and death.
Oftentimes, these types of crosses are often associated with satanic
cults.
Other notable crosses include the Celtic cross which has loops and
circles in the point of intersection; the Egyptian cross or ankh which
has a circle on top: The anchor cross in which a cross is combined with
an anchor; the Greek cross which is has equal four arms and the Indian
cross which is said to be the origin of the swastika which is the symbol
of Nazi Germany.
